Genome-wide association study for rice genetic improvement

SMARTBREEDING. A Genome-wide association study (GWA), known as whole genome association study, is examination of the entire genome of different individuals to see if any variant is associated with a trait. Reading the entire DNA sequence, these systems usually read SNPs that are variations in single nucleotides. GWA studies are necessarily hypothesis free, for rearching the entire genome for associations rather than focusing on small candidate areas. Alternative stragies such as linkage analysis act as systematic studies of variation, without needing variants at each region.
